I don't know that teaching kids to fight off a gunman is a very good idea but the information is pretty useful in any event.
Using your surroundings and what's in it to defend yourself is always a good lesson. It seems that the education of that particular training is not solely for the purpose of what to do in case someone with a gun comes into the school. Sounds like it's just one part of the training.
I myself wouldn't advocate taking down a gunman but if there is a way to do it and the students and teachers at least have the knowledge that's better than not having a clue what to do I suppose.
The fact that our kids have to be taught and drilled about this kind of stuff is the sad part. It's a shame that we aren't even safe from ourselves anymore.
