two or more people brought together by life. maybe an accident or mihap or even a good thing like winning the lottery? where they need to support each other in ways that might not have happened if these things needn't occur.this support can be talk or sending time with each other could lead to other things but most of all the understanding of what is going on at this time in there life.
Hmmm, If I had to choose from the above definitions to make one that sorta fits what I think it means I guess it would be:

I think emotional affairs are a way people fill particular voids in their lives. We seek out what we're missing, it's human nature.
